Amberg GRP system FX 5000 - Helical Kinematic scanning

What is it ?

The Amberg GRP 5000 is a portable high precision measurement system for high speed railway infrastructure surveys. It allows high accuracy track geometry observations to be supplemented by high speed, real time 3D clearance and point cloud laser scanning. The benefits - very high speed, high accuracy, volume of data and valuable time on track reduced, simple 2D or complex 3D deliverables available.

This equipment sets the standard in railway surveying, moving tunnel scanning from 100m/hour three years ago to 2km/hour to observe a 3D registered point cloud. The trolley itself can also be used to refine the precise track geometry observations again adding speed and accuracy. When used with our the cloud processing software, we can also automate the process of clearance profile analysis (taking clearoute sections as CAD or SCO files).

By selecting Severn Partnership with the GRP5000 for your projects, you will optimise

The Amberg system makes use of our Leica HDS6100 ultrafast phase based laser scanner. The HDS6100 takes 3D laser scanning to the next level of portability and productivity; compact, easily transported, on board batteries and integrated hard drive to log data, faster boot up time.

Statistics:
  • Amberg trolley with Leica HDS6100 laser scanner
  • Point spacing between 5mm and 20mm
  • Scanner observing 500,000 points per second
  • Scanning at uniquely high speeds of up to 100 Hz
  • Kinematic observations (pushing the Amberg at 2km/hour)
  • Can adapt to gauges from 1000mm to 1676mm
  • Results in real time.

Deliverables:

  • Conventional 3D CAD DXF of high accuracy track geometry
  • 3D CAD wireframe models
  • 3D solid models
  • 2D CAD cross sections through infrastructure
  • 2D ClearRoute sections (SCO files)
  • Full 3D registered point cloud on the site survey grid (down to 5mm point cloud spacing)
  • Relative mode - Simple surveys can be referenced by chainage alone
  • Absolute mode - Linked to site survey grid or real world coordinates (O.S Grid & Newlyn height datum)
  • Real time clearance checking on site possible

Potential uses with Railway Infrastructure:

  • Tunnels, bridge, gantries, retaining walls, other fixed infrastructure
  • Monitoring
  • Clearance and profile checks
  • Inventory surveys and assessment databases
  • As built surveys
  • Clash detection

Examples of relevant experience include:

  • Severn Tunnel
  • Box Tunnel
  • Sodbury Tunnel
  • Patchway Tunnel
  • Newport Tunnel
