Remote Access and Reflectorless Survey by Laser Measurement and Scanning

Surveying structures and detail points without physical access can be achieved using a range of techniques, most of which are touched on in various places around the site:
  • Aerial photogrammetry
  • Aerial LIDAR
  • Terrestrial laser scanning
  • Terrestrial photogrammetry
  • Reflectorless total station (Leica 1103+ & Trimble S6 and S8)

All these techniques enable us to gather information where access is a problem. This may be due to land ownership, health and safety restrictions, or just points of detail high up on a building façade.

An example of an ideal use of reflectorless survey would be to coordinate survey points around a level crossing without requiring access to Network rail land and costly safety staff.

Further example projects:

  • Underside of a viaduct in Birkenhead (carriageway thickness)
  • Rail bridge structures
  • LIDAR survey for planning proposals (potential waste tip)
  • Photogrammetry of proposed train & tram routes
  • Reflectorless survey of overhead power cables, telegraph poles & pylons
