Visibility Splay Surveys

As the highways infrastructure grows in complexity there is an increasing requirement for new road intersections and access points to be designed safely and planned according to Local Authority specifications. Severn Partnership has frequently loaned its geo-spatial consultancy towards visibility splay surveys ensuring that future designs meet current planning safety requirements. Understanding the individual service required allows us to execute the survey with the appropriate techniques.

Traditional survey methods can be used to supply comprehensive topographical surveys for visibility analysis.
Alternatively applying modern laser scanning techniques allows 3-dimensional models generation of proposed intersection sites allowing for more precise safety planning and the ability to run vehicle simulations and animated animations through potential access areas.

Deliverables include:
  • Topographical survey (3D DWG)
  • Survey linked to O.S National Grid if required
  • Digital data as DXF or DWG file
  • 3D wire frame line models (DXF / DWG)
  • Rendered 3D models (AutoCAD, 3DStudio or Sketchup models)
  • Animated visualisations (AVI or MP4)

To visualise how animations can be applied towards visibility splay scenarios please visit our scanning animations gallery.
